The accident was reported about 2:30 p.m. Police said the man, whose name has not been released, was walking westbound on 55th Street across U.S. 71 when he was hit by a Chevrolet Nova. The driver of the car did stop and has been cooperating with police. The crash has closed northbound U.S. 71 until crews can finish the investigation at the site. Traffic is being diverted.
